Women and children suffer disproportionate inequality in humanitarian settings — from neglect and child labour to early marriage, gender-based violence, and being out of school. Children living in IDP camps and host communities across Borno's Local Government Areas face these same challenges, deepened by years of insurgency and communal clashes that have exposed their vulnerability.

This project is meant to provide timely and life-saving protection services for at least 5,000 children through raising awareness and building the capacity of at least 50 service providers, including duty bearers, community members and humanitarian actors, to reduce protection risks and identify and support the most vulnerable. Persons living with disabilities in IDP locations, host communities and returnee communities are also considered, with age- and gender-tailored minimum packages, positive parenting support for caregivers, and specialized mental health services in line with Child Protection Minimum Standards.

Objectives

  • Provide timely, life-saving protection services to at least 5,000 children through awareness and quality mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS)
  • Ensure children, including those with disabilities, have access to comprehensive case management in collaboration with the health sector
  • Engage and sensitize parents and caregivers to return out-of-school children to school, in collaboration with the education sector
  • Strengthen the capacity of at least 40 community-based structures and service providers to identify and support the most vulnerable children
  • Strengthen local authorities' capacity to identify, promote and protect the rights of conflict-affected children
  • Reduce the risk of violence and abuse through awareness-raising and improved access to civil documentation and basic services

Activities

  • Trace and identify neglected and vulnerable children with no access to Education and Nutrition, linking them to appropriate authorities for Food and Shelter
  • Advocacy and sensitization meetings with community leaders and local authorities on preventing violence and abuse against children
  • Train 60 community members on preventing and responding to gender-based violence and harmful practices against children
  • Provide social and recreational facilities and services to neglected and vulnerable children
  • Provide blankets and mosquito nets for 300 vulnerable children, including adolescents with disabilities, and their caregivers
  • Produce 3 billboards, 9 banners, 4,000 IEC materials and 300 sets of souvenirs carrying child-protection messages
  • Train 15 MHPSS workers and 30 social workers across project locations

Projected Impact

By supporting this campaign, you are not just providing children with access to education; you are unlocking a world of opportunities and empowering them to reach their full potential and promoting their emotional development. Through participation, children learn empathy, build their social skills and understand their civic responsibilities. Together, we can create lasting change and build a future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.

Key Messages

  • Every child deserves a chance to learn and thrive regardless of the challenges they face.
  • By coming together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and ensure they have the tools they need to build brighter futures.
